You and the Night and the Music: Jazz People, Places, and Possibilities
|
Thursday, 9-11pm
Each episode will explore a particular musician, place/time (e.g., Chicago in the 20s, the Village Vanguard), or development in the music (e.g., the movement from swing to bebop in the 40s, free jazz and modal in the 60s). Dan Feigelson is a career educator who travels the world training teachers in
international schools on the teaching of reading and writing. He is also a jazz musician and a passionate student of the music’s history. Growing up in New York City, Dan had the good fortune to study with Gary Peacock, Milt Hinton, and jazz historian Phil Schaap, and see and hear up close many of the greatest musicians in history in iconic venues. He believes that jazz is a tangible expression of true democracy, communication, and love – not necessarily in that order. |
