Programming Committee
February 17, 2009 Minutes
Members in attendance: Deborah Alecson, Larry Bronstein, Harold Schrager, Nick Ring, Dan White
Guests: Emma Ring, Ben Shalles
Organization-sponsored programming:
If an organization requests a syndicated show, how are the responsibilities allocated to that organization and its members? Motion: Should a local organization submit an application for a syndicated program, a local individual must be identified on the application who would be responsible for fulfilling the non-studio requirements (station/policy orientation, volunteer hours, etc.) and subject to studio requirements as necessary for broadcast. approved unanimously.
Programmers with Disabilities:
Some discussion.
Transitions:
Problems arise, particularly with the introduction of a new schedule, with transitions between programs. The start of a scheduled program takes precedence over the end of the previous program. Policy violation warning points can be awarded for running over into another program’s time slot, however courtesy begins before that.
Tasks:
- Review automation schedule & removed pre-recorded non-schedule shows (DW)
- confirm automation schedule for Aquarian Hour (NR)
- scripting of Wake Up News for playback in AM Show (NR)
- email to programmers regarding show transitions (LB)
- contact Tim Schaeffer regarding transitions seminar (HS)
disabilities:
Physical disabilities, mental disabilities. Perhaps putting a line on the application to the effect of: Do you have a disability that may require accommodations? distinction of being approached vs. chasing folks down. distinctions between on-air issues (repeated absences, on-air behavior) and completion of volunteer requirements. Keeping in mind balance of programmer’s needs and needs of the station. case-by-case basis vs. more established policies. long chain of back and forth emails can end up being counterproductive and face-to-face meetings may be necessary. Using cleared engineers to accommodate programmers with needs.
