Thank you to everyone who played a role in WBCR-lp’s Fund Drive this last week: Thank you to both those who phoned in and those who spent time answering phones; to those who donated time and those who contributed money; and to those who strengthened us with their support, encouragement, ideas and positive attitudes.
Stay tuned for more great, participatory community radio, more events and for the Oktoberfest! Fall Fund Drive. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Great Barrington community radio station WBCR-LP announces its 2010 Spring Fund Drive taking place from Sunday May 9 through Saturday May 15. The theme for the drive is PowerUp! Funds raised will be used for ongoing operations and improvements that will allow the station and its volunteers to better serve area listeners. WBCR-LP can be heard at 97.7 FM in the immediate Great Barrington area or streamed online at BerkshireRadio.org.
The PowerUp! Fund Drive will feature on-air fundraising by the all-volunteer programmers each day from 6 AM to midnight. Pledges may be made by calling 413.644.9797, pledging online at berkshireradio.org, dropping a pledge off at the studios located in the Granary Building at 37 Rossetter St. in downtown Great Barrington, or by mailing a pledge to WBCR-LP, PO Box 152, Great Barrington, 01230.
WBCR-LP is operated by the Berkshire Community Radio Alliance, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit membership organization. The station has no paid staff, is committed to community access to the media, and allows anyone who wishes to be on the radio the opportunity to have a radio program. Currently, over 100 volunteer programmers present the most varied schedule of radio programs imaginable each week at 97.7 FM. WBCR-LP has been on the air for over five years.
The first months of 2010 has seen the number of volunteer programmers jump significantly. “Right now our schedule is jam-packed from 6 AM to midnight, seven days a week,” said station board president Paul Rapp.
Also in 2010, the Federal Communications Commission granted a full-power broadcast license to WBCR-LP, the all-volunteer low-power community radio station located in Great Barrington. In 2007 the FCC provided a rare opportunity for the licensing of non-commercial radio stations, and WBCR-LP applied to upgrade its status to full-power.
“This is something we’ve been working toward for several years,” says station board president Paul Rapp. “Having a regional signal will create a lot of great opportunities and contribute immensely to our mission of community-based media access.
