Graham and Barbara Dean will air their 40-minute interview with legendary British folk-rocker Richard Thompson on Common Sense Songs, beginning at 8 PM on Wednesday night, April 16th, three days prior to his solo appearance in our area at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Theatre.
Richard Thompson was one of the founders of Fairport Convention back in the late 60’s, and therefore one of the originators of the British folk-rock scene. Their 1969 recording Liege and Lief was voted the most important folk album of all time on BBC Radio 2. He was also voted one of the twenty greatest guitarists of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine. His influence on both sides of the Atlantic is gargantuan. He’s received many rewards for his songwriting, and his songs have been covered by artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Del McCoury Band, June Tabor, Sandy Denny, and so many others. He continues to innovate, surprise and delight his audiences around the world with his creativity and guitar mastery.
